penny presses and fun-house mirrors

Today I got to meet up with the lovely Sonja, and go somewhere that I have wanted to go to for a very long time in San Francisco, the Conservatory of Flowers. It was humid and beautiful inside, and we talked about going there every day in the summer with books and embroidery projects and sketchpads and brewing jasmine tea in front of the koi ponds and venus fly traps. The special exhibit this month included an old carnival style section, with photobooths, goofy mirrors, and memorabilia penny presses!

There was also some impromptu daisy chain making involved on our way back to the train... I can't wait to get my actual photographs developed. x

peter rabbit (and friends)

I spent the afternoon making bunny rabbit cookies out of leftover pie crust. I sprinkled them with sugar crystals to sweeten them, but they still ended up tasting more like buttermilk biscuits. They were utterly delectable with some raspberry jam.

I discovered an adorable elephant and a little duck, too! x

zoo be zoo

For so many months now, I have been waiting for the return of Mad Men to television. I do not normally set aside specific times to watch shows that are being broadcast, but Mad Men holds a special place in my heart, as the fashion is so impeccable and the characters are so very interesting. The premiere last weekend led my thoughts to France in the 1960's, as everything in my life does.

I can not get this song out of my head lately, because of that episode. I think that this summer shall be a Brigitte Bardot summer. x

home sweet

This room is my home - a place which I miss terribly when I am away at school. I am a collector at heart, and there are shells from the ocean, there is coloured glass, and there are bones. I have animal pins and star pins, both to help remind me of the most beautiful and most powerful things. And old photographs, for I'm certain they meant something to someone, once, and that sort of thing should not be forgotten.
